October 12, 2026 - Soul Training

October 12, 2026, 8:00 AM

Lately, I have been giving a lot of thought to how we ignore the inward parts of our lives while we try to maximize the outward parts.  We train our brains through education...and we emphasize to our children how important it is to do well in school and to take it seriously.  We train our bodies through sports participation...and we emphasize to our children how important it is to eat healthy and to workout.  We train our areas of gift through classes and practice...and we emphasize how important it is to use our individual gifts well.  So what is missing here?

For many, the idea of training their spirit is unfathomable, well outside the norm for many.  For some reason, our souls are left unguided, as if by magic we are going to learn how to nurture the most tender part of ourselves.  Our inner life is the one that actually screams the loudest at us, but we are the only ones who can hear it.  We live with the chatter of our soul constantly.  We wrestle with it, we test it, and we act based upon it.

So why, my dear friends, do we not make it our first priority from birth to train our souls?  We ignore it, as if it is somehow the lowest priority when, in fact, every single thing we do in life is steered by our soul.  If we don't learn to tap that mystery, to feel the oneness that is available to all of us, then we risk walking through life successful on the outside, but purposeless on the inside.  We risk feeling fully alone, sensing nothing other than the concrete things that are right before us, but fully missing out on the preciousness of that connection with something far greater than ourselves.  We risk not understanding the world at a different level, missing out on the Realm that operates on a different and higher plane than we usually experience.

Soul Training fills us up, teaches us, and guides us.  We can train every other part of ourselves...and we should...but without Soul Training we are missing out on something that brings a different sort of order to the chaos of our lives.  While that may not be as impressive as running marathons, climbing mountain tops, or attaining advanced degrees, it is  where wisdom lives, and we just might find something special there.

In Light and Love,
Rev. Cindy
